The Foundation
Why We Started
In December of 2007, Tina Meier founded the Megan Meier Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, in memory of her 13-year-old daughter, Megan Taylor Meier, who took her own life after being cyberbullied by an adult neighbor pretending to be a boy on MySpace.
Our Mission
“To Support and Inspire Actions to End Bullying, Cyberbullying, and Suicide.”
Our Vision
“To live in a world where bullying and cyberbullying no longer exist.” We believe by empowering our society to celebrate individuality and the acceptance of others, we can work together to make a difference and create a safer and kinder world.
Our Core Values
Integrity: We assure reliability and honesty. We are ethical and respectful in all our endeavors and continually strive to apply high standards and best practices to make a direct and powerful difference in our community.
Education: We work to continually increase our knowledge of current trends and research related to our mission. We anticipate and adapt to changing conditions.
Inclusion: We embrace different abilities, perspectives, and experiences and are committed to promoting equity—welcoming, celebrating, and valuing the contributions of all.
Empathy: We seek to understand, support, and actively listen to individuals needing our services and convey compassion without judgment.
Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
We believe diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizations have a deeper, fuller understanding of the communities they serve. DEI responsibility must be shared throughout the organization and not solely by one person or team. We regularly participate in workshops, training, and reviews of scholarly articles to obtain DEI fluency and develop a shared language and awareness of equity. We dedicate time and resources to educate ourselves about the historical forces that have shaped our communities and the systems perpetuating inequities. This culture of learning also includes conversations and training on implicit bias, microaggressions, and privilege, among many more. Only through educating ourselves on these issues can we apply an equity lens to all major decisions and hold each other accountable for creating an inclusive environment.
